Mangrove forests are ecosystems that offer us environmental services, mainly to coastal populations, since their tangled root system has adapted to live and develop in conditions of flooded and therefore unstable soils, where bodies of water mix. sweet and salty.
In these ecosystems, many processes are developed that have conferred these environmental services, for example: their calm waters with muddy bottoms, are ideal places for the spawning of a large number of fish, likewise we can find crustaceans and mollusks, which commonly support an important part of riparian fisheries.
Other benefits that they provide us are like many other forests, producing oxygen, capturing carbon dioxide, producing a large amount of biomass, being a physical barrier against the onslaught of norths and hurricanes, as well as being filters that retain sediment, soil, and unfortunately garbage, thus avoiding its dispersion towards the sea. For this reason, ECOMARE and OCEANUS A.C., carry out the project for the management and safeguarding of the Rio del Dorado mangrove, the objective of which is to recover those areas where this vegetation has been lost and monitor it over time to see the effectiveness of these actions.
