Oceanus operates two active Marine and Coastal Biodiversity Restoration Centers — in Veracruz and Xcalak — where we train the next generation of marine conservation professionals and bring the reef closer to communities.
Oceanus's Marine and Coastal Biodiversity Restoration Centers (CRBMC) are spaces for scientific work, professional training and environmental education, strategically located in two of the country's most active reef-restoration regions.
Each center serves as a field operations base for Oceanus's restoration teams and as a training hub for professionals, university students, local communities and the general public.
Three training tracks designed for different audiences and levels of specialization, all with a hands-on field component.
Specialized training in reef restoration methodologies: coral nursery propagation, transplanting techniques, survival monitoring and data analysis. Aimed at marine biologists, scientific divers and conservation technicians.
Specialized workshops for rangers, administrators and staff of coastal protected natural areas. Includes reef monitoring protocols, impact assessment and coordination of restoration programs within protected areas.
Marine environmental education courses and workshops for coastal communities, fishers, ejidos and the general public. Covers the reef's importance for the local economy, the impacts of climate change and accessible conservation actions.
Two spaces dedicated to bringing the world of the reef closer to students, families and visitors in an accessible and memorable way.
Science outreach
A science-outreach space on the biodiversity and restoration of the Mexican Caribbean's reefs. Through interactive exhibits, models and visual materials, the Marine Pavilion brings reef-restoration science to visitors of every profile — from tourists to researchers.
Primary education
An educational space designed for primary-school students and the general public. La Casita de los Arrecifes offers playful activities, hands-on workshops and educational materials that explain, in accessible terms, the importance of coral reefs, marine biodiversity and the actions everyone can take to protect the ocean.
Two active Restoration Centers plus the main offices in Chetumal — coverage across the Gulf and the Mexican Caribbean.
The Chetumal office houses the executive direction, administration, scientific coordination and project management offices of Oceanus, A.C.
From here we coordinate the operation of the two CRBMC Centers, the donor programs, institutional agreements and communication with national and international research networks.
